Jason Johnson

Deputy CIO, Enterprise Services

Jason Johnson brings 24 years of experience working in information technology to the role of Deputy State CIO. Prior to this position, Jason served as Executive Director of Technology for Albuquerque Public Schools from 2013 to 2019. He has a Bachelor of Information Communication Technology and a master’s degree in organizational leadership. He has a genuine commitment of bringing value to those he serves through a constant strive for excellence while adapting to ever-changing dynamics.

Jason appreciates working with talented people who want to deliver the Best of Class service to the organizations DoIT serves. He also likes being in a place where he can reimagine how to better serve agencies while ensuring a commitment to the success of our community.

His leadership style is built on open communication and trust. He defines himself as an optimistic realist who takes a pragmatic approach in dealing with challenges. Access, Adapt, and Overcome is his mantra. Jason believes in the word “team” and in building collaborative and functional environments to create collective success.

Jason has lived in NM since he was 13. His favorite food is anything with green chile. He loves the diversity of both the people and the terrain, from the White Sands to the amazing mountains, this state has something to offer everyone, and you can’t beat the weather.

Fun facts: Jason spent the first 13 years of his life going to school in a very small (<400) farming town in Colorado with only 96 children in grades K-12. He later graduated in a class of over 500 from Clovis NM before joining the navy where he served for 4 years. Prior to working in Technology, Jason worked in construction.
