Driving Innovation and Modernization Across New Mexico’s Technology Landscape
Manny Barreras serves as the Cabinet Secretary and State Chief Information Officer for the New Mexico Department of Information Technology (DoIT). Appointed by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and confirmed by the New Mexico Senate in September 2024, Manny leads the state’s technology strategy and oversees an enterprise portfolio valued at more than $1 billion. His responsibilities include managing mission-critical public safety communications, statewide networking, cloud services, cybersecurity, and broadband expansion. He is focused on ensuring that technology investments deliver secure, efficient, and innovative solutions that improve government services and protect taxpayer resources.
With over 26 years of experience in technology and public safety communications, Manny spent 19 years at Motorola Solutions, where he managed complex projects that provided secure voice, data, and video systems for state, local, and tribal agencies. During his tenure, he played a key role in securing more than $400 million in two-way radio communications and public safety technology investments across his territories, which included El Paso and surrounding areas in Texas; Tucson, Pima County, Nogales and surrounding areas in Arizona; the entire State of New Mexico; and key border regions. His work strengthened interoperability and reliability for first responders across these critical areas.
A proud New Mexico native and graduate of New Mexico State University (BBA, Marketing), Manny is committed to advancing technology that enhances public safety and modernizes government operations. Under his leadership, DoIT is driving initiatives to expand statewide radio coverage, deploy Microsoft 365 and GenAI tools, introduce AI-powered government services, and deliver secure data storage solutions for agencies across the state.
